Montenegro (“Black Mountain”) is a small Adriatic country roughly the size of Connecticut, where limestone peaks of the Dinaric Alps drop almost straight into the sea. It packs the fjord-like Bay of Kotor, medieval walled towns, Europe’s deepest canyon (Tara River), and five national parks into a compact stretch of coast and high mountains. Independent since 2006 and using the euro without being in the EU, it remains one of the Balkans’ less-crowded places where dramatic scenery and quiet roads still dominate. It sits just north of Albania. It has a far more modern feel than the other Balkan Countries we’ve traveled so far, hopefully we will find the people equally engaging!
